Sunny Afternoon, Boat Launch Gallery and Coastal Cleanup Day

Heal the Bay is organizing Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday and it's not too late to sign up or send a $5 donation via text if you can't make it out.

Today is Sept. 16. It is the 259th day of the year. We are under a waning gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 7 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 69, though a thick marine layer was still hugging the coast in the early afternoon. Forecasters expect patchy fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 59 degrees. There should be patchy fog Saturday morning that will gradually clear with sunny skies and a high near 68 degrees in the afternoon.

2. Our Viewfinder photo gallery this week focuses on the public boat launch in Marina del Rey. Check out the photo gallery right here.

3. St. Bernard High School in Playa del Rey will host Cerritos Valley Christian in a non-league football matchup. The Vikings are 2-0 under first-year coach Larry Muno.

4. Don't forget. Tomorrow is the annual Coastal Cleanup Day with about 60 coastal and inland sites designated for cleanup. Santa Monica-based Heal the Bay is organizing the Los Angeles County cleanup, which is part of an international event that is the largest 24-hour volunteer effort on the planet. If you can't join the cleanup, you can support it with a $5 donation by texting GIVE2CCD to 20222.

5. Patch is looking for bloggers. We recently rolled out a new blogging platform and are looking for local bloggers to write about whatever they want, whenever they want. If you're interested or want to learn more, send me an email: Paul.Chavez@patch.com.
