Sunny Afternoon, Deputy Charged with Child Molestation and Halloween Contest

The National Weather Service says we can expect a mostly sunny afternoon today and Saturday.

Today is Oct. 21. It is the 294th day of the year. We are under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 6:14 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 64 degrees with patchy fog late tonight and an overnight low around 56 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog Saturday morning then gradual clearing with a high near 73 degrees.

2. A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy assigned to the Marina del Rey station has been charged with three counts of felony child molestation. Kenneth Alexander, 45, posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 10. Details right here.

3. Patch is holding a Halloween costume contest with the help of celebrity judge Heidi Klum. The grand prize is a trip for two to New York or Los Angeles for a three day, two night stay that includes a meet-and-greet with Klum, plus a donation of $1031 to a local charity of the winner's choice. Nine runners up also will get a $1031 donation to a local charity of their choice. Details right here.

4. The California State Water Resources Control Board has delayed its decision on whether to allow discharges in storm-water runoff into protected areas. The board will take up the issue again in January after reworking and clarifying language in the plan. Details right here.

5. Patch is looking for bloggers. We recently rolled out a new blogging platform and are looking for local bloggers to write about whatever they want, whenever they want. If you're interested or want to learn more, send me an email: Paul.Chavez@patch.com.
