Sunny Afternoon, Fishing Season Opens and Follow us

Boating columnist Paul M.J. Suchecki in his latest column talks to locals about the opening of fishing season.

Today is April 4. It is the 94th day of the year. We are under a waxing crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 7:18 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 76 degrees. Forecasters predict patchy fog between 11 p.m. tonight and 11 a.m. tomorrow. It should be mostly sunny and clear Tuesday afternoon with a high near 68 degrees.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers lost yesterday to the Denver Nuggets, who won 95-90 at Staples Center. The loss snapped the Lakers' nine-game winning streak.

4. There are more flight delays and cancellations today for Southwest Airlines passengers. The airline took its fleet of Boeing 737s out of service for inspections after a hole was found in the fuselage of one of its planes Friday during a flight and more cracks were found in three more planes. Southwest is canceling about 100 flights today, which is down from the 600 cancellations over the weekend.
