Sunny Afternoon, Halloween Costume Contest and Patch Fishing Report

The National Weather Service says it should be sunny this afternoon with a moderate Santa Ana condition developing mid-week.

Today is Oct. 31. It is the 304th day of the year. We are under a waxing crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 6:03 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 69 degrees with patchy fog late tonight and an overnight low around 54 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy dense fog Tuesday morning with gradual clearing in the afternoon and a high near 63 degrees. A moderate Santa Ana wind condition will develop late Tuesday and is expected to bring clear skies and warmer temperatures Wednesday.

2. Patch is holding a Halloween contest looking for the most creative children's costume and the deadline to enter is 9 p.m. tonight. Patch will whisk the winner to New York or Los Angeles for a three day, two night trip for two that includes a meet and greet with celebrity judge Heidi Klum, plus a donation of $1031 to a local charity of the winner's choice. Nine runners up will also get a $1031 donation from Patch to a local charity of their choice. The contest is for kids ages 12 and under. Details right here.

3. The recent summer-like weather has the white seabass and yellowtail biting and there's also been some excellent rockfishing. For more on the local angling scene, watch this Patch video report.
