Sunny Afternoon, Plastic Bags Lawsuit and Columbus Day

The National Weather Service says it will be sunny all week with warmer temperatures expected Wednesday and Thursday.

Today is Oct. 10. It is the 283rd day of the year. We are under a waxing gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 6:27 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for sunny skies with a high near 73 with patchy fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 60 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog Tuesday morning with gradual clearing to sunny with an afternoon high near 74 degrees. Warm weather is expected mid-week with highs Wednesday and Thursday in the upper 80s.

2. A lawsuit has been filed by a South-Carolina based plastic bag manufacturer challenging Los Angeles County's ban on single-use plastic bags. More details right here.

3. It's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Patch blogger Rosemary Lichtman, who also is a breast cancer survivor, offers some tips to help manage your recovery. Details right here.

4. Today is Columbus Day. Federal, county and city offices are closed, along with banks, courts and libraries. There also will be no mail service today. State offices and Metrolink are all open and trash will be picked up on regular schedule.

5. Patch is looking for bloggers. We recently rolled out a new blogging platform and are looking for local bloggers to write about whatever they want, whenever they want. If you're interested or want to learn more, send me an email: Paul.Chavez@patch.com.
