Sunny Afternoon, Store for Boaters and Follow Us

The National Weather Service says it will be sunny this afternoon, but expect some fog tonight.

Today is March 28. It is the 87th day of the year. We are under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 7:13 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 64 degrees with patchy fog expected tonight after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 51 degreess.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers beat the New Orleans Hornets 102-84 last night at Staples Center. The Lakers are 15-1 since the All-Star break.

3. Boating columnist Paul M.J. Suchecki in his latest article takes a look at the Ship's Store, which has been a steady friend for boaters for more than 40 years. You can read about it right here.

4. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose yesterday for the fifth consecutive day, increasing 1.1 cents to $4.034. That's the highest average price since Aug. 17, 2008. The average price is 6.1 cents higher than a week ago, 29 cents above what it was one month ago and 93.3 cents greater than it was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
