Sunny Afternoons, Butler's Decision and Peyton Manning's Surgery

The National Weather Service says we can expect a sunny afternoon with a high temperature near 70 degrees.

Today is Sept. 14th. It is the 257th day of the year. We are under a waning gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 7:03 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 70 degrees with patchy fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 62 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog Thursday morning with sunshine in the afternoon and a high near 69 degrees.

2. Assemblywoman Betsy Butler, D-Marina del Rey, made it official with her announcement that she'll be moving out of Marina del Rey to run in the 50th Assembly District a little bit up the coast. Butler won election to her 53rd Assembly district seat in November, but will run for the seat representing Santa Monica, Malibu, Augora Hills and West Hollywood. Details right here.

3. A father-son duo of surgeons performed surgery last week on Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Peyton Manning. Details on the surgeons and the surgery are .
