Sunny Afternoons, Free Slurpees and Biking Ordinance

Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl in a Local Voices video talks about a pending ordinance to protect bicyclists from harassment.

Today is July 11. It is the 192nd day of the year. We are under a waxing gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 8:08 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for sunny skies with a high near 72 degrees with patchy after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 62 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog Tuesday morning that will gradually clear to sunny with a high near 68 degrees.

2. Ready for a brain freeze? The convenience store chain 7-Eleven is giving away free 7.11 ounce Slurpees to celebrate its 84th birthday. The nearlest store in our area is at 4010 Lincoln Blvd. at the intersection of Lincoln and Washington boulevards.

3. Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl in his first video blog for Patch talks to constituents about a draft ordinance to protect bicyclists from harassment. Check it out right here.

4. The Nature Notes blog takes a look at the blue-green grasss currently spreading along the Ballona Creek estuary. Read all about it and view the photos right here.

5. Patch is looking for bloggers. We recently rolled out a new blogging platform and are looking for local bloggers to write about whatever they want, whenever they want.
