Sunny Afternoons, Kayaking to Catalina and Week in Review

The National Weather Service says we can expect clear skies today and Tuesday, and it looks good for the rest of the week too.

Today is Sept. 26. It is the 269th day of the year. We are under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 6:46 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 68 degrees with patchy fog expected after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 61 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog Tuesday morning with gradual clearing and an afternoon high of near 74 degrees.

2. What do David Salper, a search marketing manager and actor, and Evelyn Nguyen, a CPA and trader, have in common? They are among the 10 kayakers with the UCLA Marina Aquatic Center preparing for an Oct. 1 kayak voyage to Catalina Island. Patch blogger J.W. Nelson in a multi-part series is writing about the adventure and those participating in it. Check out Part 2 on Salper and Nguyen right here.

3. The Congress of Neighborhood Councils was held over the weekend to provide workshops for neighborhood council members and explain their work to the public. Details here.

4. In case you weren't around last week, we have a Week in Review with some of the top stories. Check it out right here.

5. Patch is looking for bloggers. We recently rolled out a new blogging platform and are looking for local bloggers to write about whatever they want, whenever they want. If you're interested or want to learn more, send me an email: Paul.Chavez@patch.com.
