Sunny Afternoons, Redistricting Challenges and Rich, Single List

CNN Money ranks Marina del Rey as No. 13 on its list of 'Best places for the rich and single' with Manhattan Beach taking the top spot.

Today is Aug. 17. It is the 229th day of the year. We are under a waning gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 7:40 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 78 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog after 11 p.m., an overnight low around 66 degrees and patchy fog Thursday morning with sunny skies tomorrow afternoon and a high near 79 degrees.

2. The California Citizens Redistricting Committee passed new electoral boundaries earlier this week, but the new maps may be challenged by state popular referendum or a separate lawsuit. Learn more details right here.
