Sunny Afternoons, Rembrandt Found and Redistricting

The drawing by Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn that was stolen from the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey is found at a church in Encino.

Today is Aug. 16. It is the 228th day of the year. We are under a waning gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 7:41 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 74 degrees, but the marine layer at nearly 1 p.m. still appears to be pretty thick. Forecasters expect patchy fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 64 degrees with patchy fog Wednesday morning before gradual clearing to sunny with a high near 78 degrees.

2. The Rembrandt drawing worth about $250,000 that was stolen over the weekend from the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Marina del Rey has been recovered after an anonymous tipster directed authorities to a church in Encino. More details right here.
