Sunny Afternoons, Vikings Win and Blog for Patch

The National Weather Service predicts sunny afternoons with highs in the low 70s throughout the Labor Day weekend.

Today is Sept. 3. It is the 246th day of the year. We are under a waxing crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 7:18 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 72 degrees with patchy fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 61 degrees. Forecasters expect sunny afternoons with highs in the low 70s through the Labor Day weekend.

A coastal hazard message warned that inconsistent surf and strong riptides will make ocean activities potentially dangerous for beachgoers through Sunday. The south swell that has brought high surf to south and southwest facing beaches has continued to subside, but inconsistent breakers of about 6-feet are still expected. 2. The St. Bernard High School Vikings won their football season opener last night with a 28-21 win over El Segundo High School.
