Sunny Skies, Bike Plan Meeting and Tony P's to the Rescue

A workshop will be held in Marina del Rey tonight to gain public input on the county's draft 2011 bike plan.

Today is April 13. It is the 103rd day of the year. We are under a waxing gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 7:25 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 65 degrees with a mostly clear night and an overnight low around 49 degrees. It should be sunny Thursday with a high near 68 degrees.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs last night, 102-93, but it may have been a Pyrrhic victory since starting center Andrew Bynum suffered a knee injury. The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, called on Lakers star Kobe Bryant to apologize for using using an apparent homophobic slur against an NBA referee after Bryant was called for a technical foul.

3. A workshop will be held tonight in Marina del Rey for the public to offer comments on the county's 2011 Draft Bicycle Master Plan, which proposes about 695 miles of new bikeways throughout the county. The draft includes a local option to extend the beach bikepath that currently  terminates at Washington Boulevard so that it extends south into the Marina del Rey peninsula. The workshop will be held at the Marina del Rey Library at 4533 Admiralty Way and will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

4. Tony P's Dockside Grill is holding a fundraiser this week to benefit Forte Animal Rescue. Print out a coupon and give it to your server and Tony P's will donate 20 percent of your purchase (including alcohol) to the animal rescue group. You can get your coupons right here (PDF file).
