Sunny Skies, Del Rey Council Meets and Weekend Ideas

The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and warmer weather over the next few days.

Today is April 14. It is the 104th day of the year. We are under a waxing gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 7:25 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 65 degrees with mostly clear skies tonight and an overnight low around 55 degrees. It should be sunny Friday with a high near 73 degrees.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers won their final regular season game last night, 116-108, in overtime against the Sacramento Kings. The Lakers finished the season 57-25, the same record they had last season when they won their second consecutive title.

The Lakers are the second-seeded team in the West and will play the New Orleans Hornets in the first round of the playoffs starting Sunday at Staples Center.

Jackson and the Lakers also were fined $75,000 each for comments Jackson made last week about the possibility of an NBA lockout, according to a report today by The Associated Press.

3. The Del Rey Neighorhood Council's general board meets tonight at 7:15 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott, 13480 Maxella Avenue in Del Rey.
