Sunny Weekend, Hearing Postponed, Blog for Us

The National Weather Service says it will be sunny throughout the Memorial Day weekend with blustery winds through Sunday afternoon.

Today is May 28. It is the 148th day of the year. We are under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 7:58 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for sunny skies with a high near 65. There's a wind advisory in effect from 3 p.m. until midnight when winds will increase speed with gusts up to 40 mph with the strongest winds near the coast. The strong winds are expected to generate wind swells of 9- to 12-feet with high surf conditions possible in Santa Monica Bay. High rip currents are also expected through Sunday.

Forecasters also said it should be partly cloudy tonight with an overnight low around 54 degrees. It should be mostly sunny Sunday with a high near 66 and sunny on Memorial Day with a high near 70 degrees.

2. Are you a college student or know one interested in journalism and local politics? Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl is seeking an intern to support his communications department in sharing news and information about the district. The intern will co-manage new media content, receive mentoring for professional development and gain new contacts. Candidates must be able to work eight hours a week for an entire semester and be able to commute to downtown Los Angeles. Preference will be given to those from the district, which includes Del Rey and Playa del Rey. Send an email to Tony Arranaga, the councilman's communications director, with a resume and a link to recent published work to apply.

3. The California Coastal Commission has postponed considering a major redevelopment proposal for Marina del Rey until October. It was widely expected the commission would hear the proposal during its June meeting in Marina del Rey, but staffing constraints have forced it to push the matter back. More details right here.
