Veterans Day, Rain Coming, Deputy Pleads and Blog for Patch

The National Weather Service says we can expect a partly sunny afternoon, but showers are coming early Saturday morning.

Today is Nov. 11. It is the 315th day of the year. We are under a waning gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 4:53 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. Today is Veterans Day. To all the veterans past and present who have served our country, we express our gratitude and thanks. The holiday has its origins from the armistice between the Allied nations and Germany that went into effect Nov. 11, 1918, generally regarded as the end of "the war to end all wars." If you, a friend or family member have ever served in the military, please feel free to add their photo to our Veterans Day photo gallery.

2. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for partly sunny skies with a high near 68 degrees with showers likely after 4 a.m. and an overnight low around 53 degrees. Showers are likely Saturday morning and it should be mostly cloudy with a high near 63 degrees.

3. A 45-year-old Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy assigned to the Marina del Rey sheriff's station has pleaded not guilty to three felony child molestation charges. Details right here.

4. Do you have an event coming up that you'd like to promote on Patch? If so, we have a video tutorial to help get your events on Marina del Rey Patch - for free. Details right here.

5. Patch is looking for bloggers. We recently rolled out a new blogging platform and are looking for local bloggers to write about whatever they want, whenever they want. If you're interested or want to learn more, send me an email: Paul.Chavez@patch.com.
