Video: Palisades del Rey, Ghost Town

Abandoned streets are all that remain of a once thriving community.

In the early 1920’s, a neighborhood called Palisades del Rey, aka Surfridge, was being developed near the present site of Los Angeles International Airport.

Many actors called Palisades del Rey home, including Cecil B. Demille and Charles Bickford. The neighborhood encompassed about 470 acres of rolling hills with ocean views above Dockweiler State Beach.

As LAX expanded, it started buying up many of the houses through eminent domain to expand the airport, and by the 1970s, most were demolished.
