Warm Afternoon, L.A. Moves to Ban Bags and Sukkot Underway

The National Weather Service says we'll have a warm afternoon and warned of a high rip current risk for beachgoers.

Today is Oct. 13. It is the 286th day of the year. We are under a waning gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 6:24 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 82 degrees with clear skies tonight and an overnight low around 65 degrees. Beachgoers also have been advised of a high rip current risk. Forecasters expect Friday to be sunny with a high near 81 degrees.

2. Los Angeles moved a step closer to a sweeping ban on single-use plastic and paper bags as the Board of Public Works approved a report urging the mayor and city council to ban single-use carryout bags in favor of reusable bags. Details right here.
