Warmer Weather Coming, Shark Myths and Vikings Climb

The National Weather Service says an upper-level high pressure system moving into the area will bring high temperatures in the low 90s Wednesday and Thursday.

Today is Oct. 11. It is the 284th day of the year. We are under a waxing gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 6:26 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a highh near 74 degrees with a clear skies tonight and an overnight low around 61 degrees. Forecasters say an upper-level high pressure system will begin building off the coast today and will bring warmer temperatures Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the low 90s. Some cooling is expected Friday when the high should be near 81 degrees.

2. The poor shark has gotten a bad rap since the release of the horror blockbuster Jaws in 1975. At the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, which is operated by the nonprofit Heal the Bay, an effort is underway to take a bit out of misperceptions about sharks. Details right here.
