Warming Trend, Nautical Resources and Boat Seized

The National Weather Service says

Today is June 30. It is the 181st day of the year. We are under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 8:10 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 71 degrees with patchy fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 62 degrees. The holiday weekend forecast calls for patchy fog in the mornings with highs in the mid-70s.

Forecasters issued a special weather statement today warning of high temperatures throughout the holiday weekend due to a strong high pressure system building over the area. Temperatures are expected to reach the 100-degree mark in inland locations, while the coolest temperatures will be at the beaches and coastal areas where the onshore breezes will keep things cool.

2. Boating columnist Paul M.J. Suchecki in his latest article examines the treasure trove of finds in the nautical section of the Los Angeles County library in Marina del Rey. Details right here.

3. Federal agents armed with search warrants conducted several raids targeting firearms traffickers in the San Fernando Valley and seized a boat in Marina del Rey as part of their investigation. Details right here.

4. Patch is looking for bloggers. We recently rolled out a new blogging platform and are looking for local bloggers to write about whatever they want, whenever they want. If you're interested or want to learn more, send me an email: Paul.Chavez@patch.com
