Congresswoman to Speak to Westchester Democratic Club About LAX

The Westchester Democratic Club will host Congresswoman Maxine Waters on Saturday, March 23 at their Annual Election Meeting. The event will take place at the Westchester Fire Station No. 5 Community Room, located at 8900 Emerson Avenue in Los Angeles from 3 to 5pm. 


Representative Waters will discuss a variety of issues including a look ahead at the 2013 Congressional year, talk about her goals as Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee, and her support for Alternatives 2 and 9 of the Los Angeles Modernization Plan, which does not move the north runway at LAX. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend.  


Congresswoman Waters, considered by many to be one of the most powerful women in American politics today, was elected in November 2012 to her twelfth term in the House of Representatives. Congresswoman Waters represents  the 43rd Congressional District, which serves a large part of South Central Los Angeles including the communities of Westchester, Playa Del Rey, and Watts and the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County comprised of Lennox, West Athens, West Carson, Harbor Gateway and El Camino Village. The 43rd District also includes the diverse cities of Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita and Torrance.

Representative Waters has served in Congress since 1991 and is a courageous advocate for peace, justice and human rights. Prior to joining Congress, she served for 14 years in the California State Assembly. As a national Democratic Party leader, Congresswoman Waters has long been highly visible in Democratic Party politics and has served on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) since 1980. Known for her no non-sense style of politics, she has been on the cutting edge tackling difficult and often controversial issues. She has combined her strong legislative, public policy acumen and high visibility in Democratic Party with an unusual ability to do grassroots organizing.


Congresswoman Waters serves as the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Financial Services. An integral member of Congressional Democratic Leadership, Congresswoman Waters serves as a member of the Steering & Policy Committee. She is also a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and member and past chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.
