Actress Kristen Bell and 200 Neutrogena Employees Clean Up Ballona Wetlands

(Oct. 2, 2013) Two hundred employees of Neutrogena and actress Kristen Bell helped Friends of Ballona Wetlands collect trash and remove invasive non-native plants in the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve.  The effort was part of the company's employee volunteer service program.  Neutrogena also donated $5000 to Friends of Ballona Wetlands, a non-profit group which manages ongoing community education and restoration activity on the Reserve property under special permit from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the California Coastal Commission.

Actress Kristen Bell, a graduate of New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, is known for her roles in the television series "Veronica Mars" and the feature film "Forgetting Sarah Marshall".  Bell is active in several environmental causes, and is Neutrogena's spokesperson for the Naturals cosmetics line.  Neutrogena and The Nature Conservancy launched the EVERY DROP COUNTS campaign at the event, a campaign for water conservation in the month of October.

Neutrogena employees removed an estimated 35 bags of trash and 500 pounds of invasive ice plant from the ecological reserve.  The trash is mostly blown in by the wind from the shoreline of the Ballona Creek flood control channel, according to Patrick Tyrrell, the Friends' Programs Coordinator.

On the fourth Saturday of every month, Friends of Ballona Wetlands welcomes community volunteer assistance for weeding and cleanup work from 9AM-Noon.  Parking is available behind Gordon's Market on Culver Boulevard in Playa del Rey.  See ballonafriends.org for more information.

Enjoy your Ballona Wetlands!
