Ballona Creek Cleanup on June 21st

Join the Ballona Creek Renaissance on the solstice to help clean up Ballona Creek where it joins the tidal prism

Ballona Creek Renaissance is hosting a volunteer cleanup at Ballona Creek's tidal junction on Saturday June 21st.

Meet at Centinela Ave. at Ballona Creek Bike Path Entrance between Culver Blvd. and the Marina Freeway (I-90), Los Angeles

What a better way to start summer and celebrate the longest day of the year with a clean-up of Ballona Creek. You'll have plenty of time to meet other motivated volunteers, pick up trash, learn about the creek and still enjoy the rest of your day. Come make a difference! Volunteers of all ages are welcome for this fun and worthwhile activity. It’s also a great way for students to earn community service credits.

Waivers required: As with all creek and coastal cleanups, participants under 18 need waiver forms signed by their parent or guardian (available on-site or online at www.ballonacreek.org). Adult volunteers also need to sign waivers.

Bring your own water in a reusable container, water will also be available at the event. Bags, buckets, grabbers, gloves and other tools will be available to use but feel free to bring your own gear. Wear closed-toed shoes, cap and sunscreen.

Our goal is to be a zero waste event, which means we will not be producing more trash than we are picking up. Everything we collect will be sorted into recyclables and trash, then weighed. We hope you will help us reach a high diversion rates. For our last clean-up in April 2014, trash amounted to 706 pounds and 163 pounds of recyclables, a total of 869 pounds diverted from reaching the Pacific!  This cleanup is made possible by a permit from the County of Los Angeles and the logistical support of the City of Los Angeles. BCR also appreciates the participation and support of the Del Rey Neighborhood Council and Los Angeles Conservation Corps.

Please help spread the word and forward this invitation to family and friends. If you can't make it to the event, consider supporting our organization by making a tax-deductible donation at www.ballonacreek.org.
