Karen and Kenneth Dial to be Honored by Friends of Ballona Wetlands: October 19th Fundraiser in Playa Vista

Friends of Ballona Wetlands will honor Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation trustees Karen and Ken Dial at their annual Moonlight on the Marsh Celebration, this Saturday, October 19th, 5-8PM, at Playa Vista's Centrepoint Club.  Tickets and sponsorships are available at www.moonlightonthemarsh.com, or by calling 310.306.5994

As President of H.B. Drollinger Co., Mrs. Karen Dial serves on several Westchester community service boards, including the Westchester Vitalization Corporation and the Women's Leadership Council of Loyola Marymount University.

Dr. Kenneth Dial has been the Director of the Flight Laboratory in the University of Montana Division of Biological Sciences for over 25 years. Dr. Dial grew up next to the Ballona Wetlands and the Hughes airport, fueling his interest at an early age in animal and aircraft flight.  He hosted 36 episodes of Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet “All Bird TV.”  Dial’s research focuses on avian flight, specifically the ontogeny and scaling of avian locomotion, in an effort to offer new perspectives on the ecology, origin, and evolution of avian flight.

Earlier this year, the Drollinger Foundation donated $25,000 to the Friends of Ballona Wetlands' Environmental Education Programs.  The Friends use donations to send school buses to underserved communities and bring students to the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve.  There, the kids are taught wetlands values and functions following the state's Environmental Education Initiative curriculum, and participate in weed removal to restore dune habitat on the wetlands' western border.

Friends of Ballona Wetlands is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization protecting and restoring the Ballona Wetlands for over 35 years with the help of more than 75,000 volunteers.  Friends of Ballona Wetlands’ mission is to champion the restoration and protection of the Ballona Wetlands, involving and educating the public as advocates and stewards.

Enjoy Your Ballona Wetlands!
