5K Run to Benefit Prostate Cancer Research on Saturday

The ZERO Prostate Cancer Run kicks off in Playa del Rey Saturday morning.

Runners will race for a cause Saturday in Playa del Rey during the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run.

Formerly known as "Dash for Dad," the 5K race will take place at Dockweiler State Beach and will benefit prostate cancer research, organizers said.

"Nearly 240,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year alone, including more than 23,000 in California,” ZERO CEO Jamie Bearse said in a news release. “ZERO Prostate Cancer Challenge raises funds that are critical for increasing awareness and fighting the disease.”

The day's events kick off at 9 a.m. and include adult and youth 5K runs. Last year, more than 300 people participated in the race, organizers said.

Registration is still open for the race and can be completed through the event's website. Fees for the adult 5K race run $30.

For those that do not register on or before July 19, race day registration is available beginning at 7:45 a.m. at Dockweiler State Beach.
