Report on California Waters Documents Industrial Dumping of Toxic Chemicals

Environment California released a new report documenting the status of California waters today.

Environment California has published a new report documenting the total amount of toxic chemicals released by industrial facilities into California’s rivers, lakes, and streams, as ranked by waterway, watershed, type of pollution, polluter, and state. Titled, "Wasting Our Waterways. Toxic Industrial Pollution and the Unfulfilled Promise of the Clean Water Act," the report can be downloaded from Environment California here.

According to an Environment California press release, the report also documents the total figures for direct releases of chemicals that cause cancer, reproductive, and developmental harm.

The report comes as the Clean Water Act turns 40, and as the Obama administration is on the cusp of finalizing new guidelines to restore Clean Water Act protections to many of California’s waterways, and waterways across the country.
