I realize that living in Marina Del Rey means accepting change, but that doesn't mean change is always good.
The latest change happens Thursday when Mermaid's Cafe on Panay Way shuts its doors, along with the health club above it.
"The Mermaid" was the quintessential place for Marina locals -- unassuming, friendly, healthy and affordable -- and its closing is yet another sign that the development frenzy has succeeded in eradicating the last of the "old neighborhood" (remember its neighbor, "The Ship's Store?).
But, change is inevitable, so while we sit in the gridlock of Admiralty Way, we can ponder what's good about the new Marina with its countless new condos and the multi-car tenants who inhabit them.
