2,300 DUI Arrests Made During 18-Day Crackdown in L.A. County
The impaired driving crackdown was conducted by 100 state and local agencies in Los Angeles County.

The 18-day Avoid the 100 Los Angeles County DUI Campaign resulted in 2,313 arrests of drivers suspected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, authorities said today.

There were 2,098 arrests made during the same period last year, said Sgt. Rich Pena of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
The campaign of sobriety checkpoints, special saturation patrols and routine patrols began at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 16, and ran through midnight Monday, Pena said.
Two people were arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence because they allegedly caused deaths.

Funding for the program, conducted by 100 state and local agencies, came from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
