Caltrans Worker Struck and Critically Injured near LAX

A suspected drunk driver is arrested at the scene.

A Caltrans worker was struck and critically injured by a suspected drunk driver Thursday morning near Los Angeles International Airport, police said.

The incident on northbound Sepulveda Boulevard in the tunnel between Century Boulevard and Imperial Highway was reported at 4:35 a.m., said Officer M. Scott of the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station.

The victim was doing street repairs at the time of the crash, Scott said.

The driver, a man, was arrested at the scene, he said.

Northbound Sepulveda Boulevard was closed at Imperial Highway, as was the Sepulveda Boulevard offramp from the westbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway as police investigated the crash, Scott said. About two hours after the crash, authorities reopened one northbound lane of Sepulveda Boulevard.
