Four Rescued from Beached Sailboat in Venice

Authorities are unclear as to the cause of the boat beaching.

Four people were rescued from a 33-foot sailboat that beached itself off Venice Monday.

A Los Angeles Police Department beach patrol unit first arrived on scene at the beach shortly before 6 p.m., but Los Angeles County lifeguards took over the rescue.

Capt. Brent Katzer of the county lifeguard unit said the four people were taken off the boat and then the boat was towed to Marina del Rey. He said the boat may have sustained some damage, but was still water tight.

It was not immediately clear what caused the boat to beach itself, Katzer said. The boat was stuck on the beach, but still in the water.
