Lifeguard SUV Hits Pedestrian on Bora Bora Way

Woman was exercising near the fire lane.

A vehicle that was part of the emergency crew responding to a call of a distressed plane in the Marina, which ended up being a false alarm, struck a woman at about 11:45 a.m. on Bora Bora Way as she was exercising next to Del Rey Landing.

The woman, who is about 35-years-old, was apparently doing push ups in the fire lane and watching an exercise video on her computer on the ground when the yellow L.A. County Lifeguard Ford Escape SUV hit her.

“She was screaming for a while,” said Miles Benedict who lives in an apartment on the 13800 block of Bora Bora Way and witnessed the incident from his balcony.

Benedict said that the woman often exercises in the area, and that the vehicle ran over her chest and then backed off of her.

California Highway Patrol was called to the scene, but neither CHP officers, L.A. county lifeguards nor firefighters were willing to disclose more information on the incident. The woman was taken to the hospital and her condition is unknown at this time.

Patch will update the story as more information becomes available.

What a fricken moron, to say the very least!!! I cringed upon reading that he drove over her. I really hope she is in good hands......please update us on this story as details are made available. How tragic - I hope she survives.

This girl will be lucky to survive--and you have to be a thoughtless jerk and call her a name?! Wow. Maybe you need to get your head examined.
SusanS October 27, 2012 at 05:39 pm
Perhaps you are are in the same category as she. There was no need to place crude names on another. The woman should not exercise in the street. And you need to learn some diplomacy when leaving public comments.
Heather October 27, 2012 at 08:37 pm
Susan, you made a dig at a woman who was exercising. Wake up! You're probably some fat hater who wishes you were fit.
Heather October 27, 2012 at 08:44 pm
Awww Susan, silly insensitive cranky woman, looks like your derogatory comment about this poor girl - who is fighting for her life - was audited out. Good call, Patch!! And another thing: wake up...people are all over the streets running, cycling, rollerblading....there's a thing called a bike lane, in the street, ya goof!

who called in the false alarm?..... was it some sort of anti-SM Airport hoax?....
David Carini (Editor) October 28, 2012 at 01:08 pm
The police doesn't release the name of the person who calls. It was a neighbor though. I talked to the owners of the plane, and the landing was a little rough on the water, someone may have thought that the plane was having mechanical difficulties.

Was the Patch able to get an update on that poor woman's condition? What a weird, random event! And it will affect that woman for the rest of her life.
David Carini (Editor) October 29, 2012 at 05:11 pm
Roberta, I'm working on that today. Should be updating soon.
David Carini (Editor) October 29, 2012 at 08:24 pm
Officials are not releasing her name. She suffered abrasions to her knee, left elbow, neck, and she complained of having pain on her left side. She was brought to UCLA hospital and has been released. If I have more news, I will be sure to update the story.

planes dumping toilet waste?....never happens.....only very large planes have bathrooms......theyRead More don't dump their waste from the air.....you're delusional and uninformed.....

Thank Glenn E. Grab for taking the time to send an answer. I agree with you, it would be blue IRead More think. I would like to hear from someone who has the same problem, there are hundreds of boats with this spray. Now having said this, we have now come up with a more rational reason. It's the pollen, not bee pollen, but tree pollen. Makes sense as it does only happen once a year. Searching for answers, this makes a little better sense.
