Man Arrested For Shooting at Police

Police dispatched a helicopter to the Mar Vista Gardens housing complex.

A 19-year-old was arrested on Sunday for attempted murder at the Mar Vista Gardens after allegedly shooting at police officers.

Around 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Los Angeles police officers tried to stop the man as he was walking, but he turned around and shot at them, according to the police report. Officers immediately called for backup and a SWAT team and a K9-unit united arrived on the scene. A helicopter also circled for hours around the housing complex. 

Many residents were asked to vacate their homes as police conducted a search for the suspect, who had been arrested a few weeks prior on another felony charge and had been out of jail for four days.

He was found in the building at Mar Vista Gardens where police first saw him. After several police requests to come out, the man surrendered and was charged with attempted murder for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
