A man was shot and killed inside his car outside of a Del Rey home this morning.
The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Braddock Drive and Berryman Avenue, said Sgt. Robin Richards of the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station.
The victim went outside, at which time his family heard gunshots, Richards said.
They found him slumped over in his vehicle, he said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Richards, who said the man crashed into some parked cars as he apparently tried to get away from whoever attacked him.
Investigators do not believe the victim was a gang member, he said. Reports from the scene indicated he was in his mid-20s.
Lt. John Radtke, a detective with the LAPD's West Bureau Homicide Division, told a news photographer at the scene that whoever shot the victim appeared to have walked up on the car.
The shooter may have fled in an older model subcompact vehicle, Richards said.
Anyone with information about the slaying was urged to call the West Bureau Homicide Division at (213) 382-9470.
