Man Shot While Visiting Shrine in Del Rey

Police are searching for the suspect. Shooting was at the same location as another shooting Friday night.

Post was reported by City News Service.

A man was shot and wounded while standing near a shrine to a gang member who was fatally shot at the same Del Rey location a day earlier, a police sergeant said today.

The second shooting occurred at about 4 p.m. Saturday at Culver Boulevard and Slauson Avenue, said Sgt. Steve Nassief of the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Station.

The man in his 20s was shot in the thigh by someone driving by in a vehicle while he stood near the shrine to a gang member fatally shot inside a one-room apartment nearby, Nassief said.

"I have not gotten word it was a retaliation shooting," he said.

The victim was in surgery at UCLA Medical Center and the suspect got away, Nassief said.

In the earlier shooting, the man was shot in the head inside the apartment at about 11:30 p.m. Friday and was pronounced dead at UCLA, he said.

Both shootings were under investigation, Nassief said.
