Marina del Rey Crime Rate Drops

Statistics parallel declining trend in county crimes.

Criminal activity dropped about 14 percent in Marina del Rey from 2007 to 2011, and the statistics so far for 2012 show the trend is continuing, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department data.

Crimes such as aggravated assault, burglaries and automobile thefts all declined significantly in the past five years. Arson was the only crime that saw an uptick.

In Los Angeles County, violent incidents have decreased about 20 percent from 2007 to 2011 and serious property crimes have fallen about 15 percent, according to the Sheriff’s Department. However, in the first six months of 2012, crimes in the county have increased compared to the first six months of 2011.
