Police Ask Public to Keep List of Valuable Property

The Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division is advising residents to keep a list of valuable property with serial numbers and photos to help relocate stolen property.

The Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division urged the public Thursday to keep a list of valuable property.

Property crimes account for the majority of crimes in Venice and the Pacific Division, which also includes Mar Vista, Del Rey and Playa del Rey, and also has been the primary type of crime in the unincorporated Marina del Rey area patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities provided a document (see attached) and asked residents to list their property and include serial numbers, brand and model information and pictures to help police return stolen property.

"Over 98 percent of bicycles in police impounds go unidentified and are not returned to their owners," police said in a statement.

Authorities also advised the public to keep the property list in a safe place.

Police said bike owners can register their bikes for free at stolenbicycleregistry.com and check for stolen property at www.propertyroom.com.
