Police Blotter: Champagne Case, Giant Theft and Boat Trouble

A couple steals more than $2,700 worth of expensive Champagne, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

CHAMPAGNE CHICANERY

A store's director called authorities after a couple stole more than $2,700 worth of expensive Champagne from a liquor cabinet, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

The grand theft occurred May 1 and was reported after a store director noticed the liquor cabinet with expensive bottles was unlocked, the report said. A surveillance camera recorded a man in his 30s to 40s and a woman in her 30s loading up a shopping cart about 10:22 a.m. with the bottles, the report said. The recording showed them making several trips to the liquor cabinet and walking out to their vehicle without paying at the cash register, the report said.

The man hid the bottles in his pants and the woman in her handbag. They made off with eight bottles of Moët & Chandon worth $48 each, eight bottles of Cristal Champagne worth $290 each and a bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne worth $500.

The surveillance tape was held as evidence.

No arrests were made.

GIANT THEFT

A Giant mountain bike worth $500 was stolen from an underground garage after someone cut a thick chain securing it, according to a deputy's report.

The theft took place between 5:30 p.m. May 2 and 9 a.m. May 3 when the yellow bike with 26-inch wheels was taken, the report said. The bike was locked to two other bicycles, but was the only one taken.

No arrests were made.

BOAT THEFT

Someone broke into a boat docked in dry storage and stole a television worth $100 and a fishing box and tackle worth $200, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

The theft happened between April 25 and May 2 when a thief entered the unlocked boat and stole the items and caused an estimated $225 in damage to an electrical panel and a driver's seat. The interior and exterior of the boat were ransacked.

A fingerprint deputy was not called out because the boat's owner was headed back to Texas.

No arrest was made.
