Police Blotter: Tools Stolen, Burglar Meets Alarm System and TVs Taken

The following information was supplied by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Marina del Rey station.

The crime theme in and near Marina del Rey in recent weeks continues to be property theft, as these accounts demonstrate. All the crimes occurred within the patrol area of the Marina del Rey Sheriff's Station.

Burglar Meets Alarm System

A resident reported that someone smashed a window at his home, but was apparently spooked by a home alarm system, according to a sherrif deputy's report.

The incident occrred the morning of Sept. 14 when someone climbed over a locked fence and into the back yard. The suspect removed a rear window screen and then smashed the window, a deputy's report said.

The suspect entered the home, but set off a motion detector inside and apperently fled out of the same broken window, the report said.

Deputies searched the area to no avail and there were no witnesses.

No arrest was made.

Tools Taken from Truck

A man reported that someone made off with more than $1,200 in tools after cutting the locks on this truck's tool box, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

A pair of Dewalt drills worth $450, a Milwaukee saw worth $130, a Husky skillsaw worth $200, a Dewalt grinder worth $100 and a bag filled with $400 worth of tools were stolen, the report said.

A deputy said he was parked monitoring traffic Sept. 11 when the victim approached him about theft that occurred between Aug. 20 and Aug. 25.

A print deputy was not requested due to the delay in reporting the theft.

No arrest was made.

Televisions Stolen

A $500 Panasonic flatscreen television and a $1,500, 46-inch Samsung television were stolen Aug. 31 from a man's apartment, according to sheriff deputy's report.

The victim said he returned home about 4 p.m. and noticed that drawers in his living room and bedroom were opened and rummaged through, the report said. Both televisions were stolen from the bedroom.

There was no sign of forced entry and deputies could not determine how the thief entered or left the apartment.

No witnesses could be found.

No arrest was made.

More Tools Taken

A property manager told sheriff's deputies that someone broke into a residence under construction Aug. 17 and stole tools, according to a sheriff deputy's report.

The deputy said that the front door and door frame of the apartment were broken. A used Dewalt skillsaw worth $50 and a $30 Ridgid sander were stolen.

There were no witnesses. A fingerprint deputy was not called out due to the construction debris.

No arrest was made.
