Police Report: Marina Burglaries on the Rise

Statistics on violent and property crime provided by the Sheriff's Department.

The summer weather has brought more tourists and more burglaries to Marina del Rey.

In July, there were 14 burglaries in Marina del Rey, compared to just one in June and six in May, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Marina del Rey Station.

"A lot of people put expensive bikes on their balconies, often unchained," said LASD Detective Anthony Easter. "People can just walk down the street, see that you have an expensive bike, and just take it."

He suggests that people keep their bicycles inside the house, as thieves can easily cut bike locks. He also wants to remind people not to leave any valuables in plain sight on a boat or in a car.
