Preliminary Hearing Set for Officer Charged with Child Molestation

Marina del Rey sheriff deputy turned himself in last year.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge on July 13 will determine whether enough evidence exists to begin a jury trial against Deputy Sheriff Kenneth Alexander, 45, who is charged with three felony counts of molestation with a 15-year-old girl.

Alexander, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Marina del Rey station, was arrested on Oct. 20, 2011 for allegedly performing sexual acts with a minor he met while on duty.

An informant contacted the Los Angeles County Child Abuse Hotline on Aug. 16, 2011, and detectives began following up on leads until eventually interviewing both the victim and Alexander.

He was placed on administrative leave with pay on Sept. 20, 2011 until he was arrested a month later.

Alexander pleaded not guilty earlier this year and is currently out of custody on a $115,000 bond.
