Violent Crimes in Del Rey Spike in 2012

A snapshot of crimes in 2012 compared to 2011.

Violent crimes in Del Rey increased almost 10 percent from 2011 to 2012, according Los Angeles Police Department data released on Tuesday.

The increase is due mostly to the spike in aggravated assaults, which jumped from 22 in 2011 to 37 in 2012.

  • Robberies were down 23 percent. 
  • Property crimes increased 11.3 percent. 
  • Grand Theft Auto was down, but thefts from vehicles were up.

The LAPD reminds people to keep valuables out of sight in their home and vehicles. The most commonly stolen items were electronics, cash and jewelry. LAPD recommends downloading a GPS tracking software for stolen phones and keeping valuables in a safe at home.
