Former Assemblywoman Betsy Butler has announced her candidacy for the 62nd Assembly District where Steven Bradford will be termed out in 2014.
Butler told friends and family that she will return to her home in Marina del Rey to run in the district, the Sacramento Bee reported Sunday.
After redistricting of her 53rd Assembly District, Butler made a bid to represent the 50th Assembly District (Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Malibu and Beverly Hills). She lost to former Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom.
The 62nd Assembly District she seeks covers Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, El Segundo, Del Aire, Marina del Rey, West Athens, Westmont and other parts of Los Angeles.
"I am running for Assembly to focus on legislation that reflects my values. If elected, I will continue to fight for environmental and consumer protections, equality for all, and safe and healthy lives for our seniors and those who have served this country. I pledge my continued commitment to giving a voice to the unheard," Butler said on her website.
