Bonin Leads City Council Race in Campaign Contributions and Spending

Los Angeles Ethics Commission reports latest campaign financials through Feb. 16 for City Council District 11 candidates.

Los Angeles District 11 City Council candidate Mike Bonin has raised more than four times the campaign money than his nearest opponent, according to the City Ethics Commission's reporting through Feb. 16.

The primary nominating election is March 5.

With contributions coming from business leaders, labor groups, residents and politicians, the chief of staff to current City Councilman Bill Rosendahl has amassed approximately $380,000, including matching funds.

Rosendahl opted not to run for reelection in 2012 to continue his fight against cancer and endorsed his chief of staff.

Bonin also reports approximately $260,000 in expenses. His largest reported expense is more than $116,000 to the Encino-based media management firm Shallman Communications.

Candidate Fred Sutton reports raising more than $87,000, including matching funds, and approximately 54,000 in expenses.

School teacher and candidate Odysseus Bostick raised approximately $34,000 for his campaign and approxiamtely $37,000 in expenses, while prosecutor Tina Hess raised approximately $30,000 and spent $25,000.

Neither amounts for campaign contributions nor expenses have been reported for write-in candidate Brian Selem.

Los Angeles City Council District 11 is made up of Venice, Brentwood, Westchester, Mar Vista, Pacific Palisades, Playa del Rey, Del Rey, Palms, Playa Vista and Marina del Rey.
