Candidates Are Gearing-Up for L.A. City Elections

Officials are still in the process of finalizing the list of 49 candidates vying for 17 municipal seats in the May 2013 elections. There are 14 candidates looking to fill outgoing Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's seat.

The Los Angeles City Clerk's Office announced on Friday that the random drawing used to determine the order in which candidates' names will appear on the ballot in the upcoming municipal elections has been moved back 30 minutes to 8:30 Monday morning.

Forty-nine candidates are running for 17 seats, including that of the mayor's office, city attorney, city controller, eight city council seats, three board of trustees seats and three spots for board of education.

The deadline to file a nominating petition was Wednesday and the clerk's office will be finalizing the list of candidates over the next few days, according to officials.

There are 14 candidates looking to fill current Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's seat, including Los Angeles City Councilman Eric Garcetti, City Controller Wendy Greuel, City Councilwoman Jan Parry, attorney and former federal prosecutor Kevin James, technology company executive and former Villaraigosa personal assistant Emanuel Pleitez, City News Service reported.

The mayoral candidates are beginning to gather endorsements, City News Service reported. Councilman Ed Reyes and the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley endorsed Garcetti; Gruel picked up an endorsement from councilmen Bill Rosendahl, Tony Cardenas and Jose Huizar; Perry was endorsed by Councilman Bernard Parks and former councilmembers Greig Smith and Ruth Galanter.

If you vote, you can make a difference by shear numbers alone! Los Angeles must change its dysfunctional leadership! The current leadership had its chance it failed. The “Vote Organization” sponsored by YJ Draiman intends to gather the masses of the population, the people who are being ignored and apathetic. These people outnumber the Special interests groups and their puppets by at least 8-2. In gathering all the masses to vote as a cohesive force by sheer numbers alone, we can retake our government and place candidates whose allegiance is to the people as a whole. We can place candidates who care about the people, our cities, states and country. YJ Draiman http://www.yjdraiman2013.com/
