Polls will close at 8 p.m. today, and residents will choose a new mayor as well as a new city council member who represents the Westside.

Los Angeles city residents today are voting for a new mayor, two propositions, school board members and several new city council members.

In Marina del Rey, voter turnout as of 11 a.m. this morning has been somewhat low. At the Marina del Rey Toyota polling station, 40 people out of a registered 1,800 voters at the location had cast their ballot.

At the Mirabella Apartments, located at 13701 Marina Point Dr., about 60 people had voted as of 11 a.m. out of a total of approximately 4,000 voters who are registered to vote at the apartment complex's polling station.

Council District 11 candidates include Mike Bonin, Odysseus Bostick, Tina Hess and Frederick Sutton.

Residents are also voting for two propositions. Prop. A would raise the sales tax in the city of Los Angeles to 9.5 percent, and is expected to generate $215 million per year. Prop. B would allow some city employees to transfer their retirement plan if they transfer to the Los Angeles Police Department.
