Today Is César Chávez Day: State Offices—Including DMV—Closed
The union leader is honored for advancing the cause of farmworkers.

California state offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles and Los Angeles Superior Courts, will be closed Thursday due to the state holiday honoring Chávez.
Chávez was a labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the group that later became the United Farm Workers. [See video.]

Los Angeles city offices will be open, as it observes Cesar Chávez Day on the last Monday in March.

Banks, Metro bus, subway, train and trash collection services will all operate on their regular schedules.
Observances are planned Thursday, the 84th anniversary of his birth, at the El Camino College Compton Center, at Torch Middle School in Industry and at a Long Beach park bearing his name.
Los Angeles County for the past 10 years has remembered Chávez with a week of service in which county employees are encouraged to volunteer in the spirit of Chávez's commitment to help others. County workers will participate Friday in a cleanup of Dockweiler State Beach in Playa del Rey.
