Event to Explain Media's Role During a Natural Disaster

Residents curious to find out how the media prepare and respond to a major disaster are invited to attend an information session by the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team on Sept. 18.

Featured speakers will include Patrick Healy, News Reporter for KNBC, Channel 4; Pete Demetriou, News Reporter for KNX 1070 Newsradio; Captain Jaime Moore, Public Information Officer for the L.A. City Fire Department, who will moderate the panel; and LAFD Firefighter/Public Service Officer Erik Scott.

The panel will explain how the media strategize to cover catastrophic events and how the LAFD and other first responders disseminate information to news organizations.

The meeting will take place from 7:15 to 9 p.m. at the training room of Fire Station 5, located at 8900 S. Emerson at Westchester Parkway, in Westchester. Admission is free.
