Humana Challenge Offers Exercise Opportunities

Humana Inc. introduced the Humana Walkit Challenge and Humana Walkit Pro at PGA West in La Quinta.

Two fun ways to get exercise at the Humana Challenge golf tournament were unveiled Wednesday.

Humana Inc. introduced the Humana Walkit Challenge and Humana Walkit Pro at PGA West in La Quinta, where professional play starts tomorrow.

With the use of pedometers and a scoring system, Walkit participants will track how many steps pros and spectators take while walking the course.

"A common goal for Humana's programs is making healthy things fun and fun things healthy," said professional golfer Gary Player, a Humana well-being ambassador. "The Humana Challenge offers great opportunities to have a great time while getting healthy."

People who attend the Humana Challenge will get a free pedometer to help them keep track their steps. Then, spectators at other tour events will try to beat the step total logged at the Humana Challenge. The tour stop that comes closest to beating or tying the total at the Humana Challenge will win a KaBOOM! "multi-generational" playground for their city.

The number of steps taken and calories burned by each player on a course will be tracked in real-time for the Walkit Pro challenge. Player information will go up on leader boards at the tournament, on the Golf Channel and on humanachallenge.com. Displays will include tips to help viewers burn calories "and information about how taking small steps can lead to big changes," according to organizers.

Humana's Well-Being Tour will return to the tournament. The mobile unit includes bike and biometric stations and a "Your Shape" Xbox game.

Who exactly is calculating that walking 6.6 miles burns almost 2000 calories??? I am running 20 miles tomorrow and will barely burn that. You are severely misleading people and should be ashamed of yourselves.
