When does the holiday season truly begin? For some, it happens when they start hearing the musak version “White Christmas” playing over the speakers in the grocery store. For others, it happens when they’re lining up outside Macy’s on Black Friday. For Marina del Rey residents, however, it usually happens when all of the boats decked out in festive Christmas lights begin circling through the marina and Venice Canals for the annual Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade. Celebrating its 50th year, the Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade will take place next Saturday, Dec. 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., kicking off with a fireworks show.
Here’s our run-down of what you can expect for the 50th anniversary show.
1. The boat parade is happening rain or shine.
2. The show officially kicks off at 5:55 p.m. with fireworks, so we advise staking out your viewing spot early.
3. Kerri Walsh. (Yes, you read that right. The three-time Olympic Gold Medalist is going to be the Grand Marshal!)
