Gasoline Prices Continue to Drop

The winter blend gasoline is reportedly less expensive to produce.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped four-tenths of a cent Wednesday to $3.59, its lowest amount since Dec. 27.

The average price has decreased 28 consecutive days and 63 of the past 64, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 4.4 cents less than one week ago, 20.2 cents lower than one month ago and 23.9 cents below one year ago.

The Orange County average price dropped three-tenths of a cent today to $3.566, its lowest amount since Dec. 27. It has also decreased 63 of the past 64 days and is 4 cents less than one week ago, 19 cents lower than one month ago and 22.2 cents below one year ago.

The dropping pump prices are the result of lower wholesale prices and the Nov. 1 switch to winter blend gasoline, which costs less to produce, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
